Located at the mouth of Vigo Bay (Ría de Vigo), the archipelago is composed of the islands Monte Agudo, Faro and San Martiño. It was declared a Natural Reserve in 1980.

Area: 8,480 hectares (7285.2 sea and 1194.8 land)
Location: Rías Baixas in southern Galicia (the islands of Cíes, Ons and Sálvora are all located at the mouths of the rías of Vigo, Pontevedra and Arosa; and Cortegada is inside the ría of Arosa.
Protective Legislation: the islands are considered an area of special protection for birdlife (ZEPA). Cíes Islands (1988), Ons Island (2001) are areas with special protection of natural values (decree 72/2004, from 2 April).
Natural Values: the landscape, marine ecosystems, cliffs, beaches, sub-Mediterranean and Atlantic coastal dune systems and plant life
Cultural Values: buildings, chapels, ancient castro dwellings, etc.
Open at Easter and summer (June 15 to September 15 approx). Maximum capacity 800 and campers may stay a maximum of 15 consecutive days.
