Monument to emigrants
Located at the beginning of Avenida de Castelao, this work is by the sculptor Camilo Nogueira and was unveiled on July 30th 1971.
It is made of granite with a plinth on which there is a pedestal. The figure is a family group made up of father, mother and son embracing each other emotionally as they meet again. There are also two rectangular stone sides with carvings showing scenes of farewells and emigrants returning.
On the pedestal we can read the following: "My friend, you travel the world searching for a faraway star. Turn your eyes back, return home where your loved ones await. ("Amigo que por el mundo vas en busca de una lejana estrella, vuelve la vista, regresa a tu hogar donde el calor de los tuyos de espera").
