Alameda Park

A stroll through the gardens of Historic Vigo

Alameda Park is part of the Ensanche, right in the heart of Vigo. It’s the city’s smallest and most elegant urban park, where you’ll see a stone zoo with species foreign to Galicia (like the hyena, sculpted by José Luis Medina). It also has a botanical garden where the aroma of seasonal flowers intertwines with the smell of ancient magnolia and camellia trees. Around the large central fountain, there are three sculptures by Camilo Nogueira (born in Vigo): Motherhood, Peace and Farewell, as well as a statue of Méndez Núñez, a famous sailor from Vigo who lead the frigate Numancia on its way to becoming the first battleship to circumnavigate the world.

Tips and recommendations:

Around the Plaza de Compostela Square, you’ll find the most fashionable tapas bars, terraces and restaurants in Vigo’s Old Town. This is also the perfect place to have the first drink of the night, by the harbour dotted with landmark buildings.
