F. Fernández del Riego Art Gallery

A tour of Galician painting

The Pinacoteca de Vigo (art gallery) is an essential art space for the city. The pieces that make up the municipal art collection are on display since 2011 in the Francisco Fernández del Riego Municipal Art Gallery, located in the old Arias Taboada pazo.

The collection occupies three floors and has been organized around the Galician painting exhibition: El hermoso rostro del país (The country’s beautiful face), with pieces from the early 19th century to the late 20th century.

The museum also has two themed rooms, one dedicated to ancient European painting and the other centred on the work of Galician painter Manuel Colmeiro.

Tips and recommendations:

The Pinacoteca de Vigo is in a gorgeous building located in the upper Old Town, so it’s an excellent option for a cultural stop if you decided to spend the day strolling through the city centre.

The pedestrian Príncipe Street, the busiest commercial area of Vigo, is also nearby, as well as the cultural golden mile.
