Octopus (Octopus Vulgaris)

The octopus is a cephalopod. It has 8 appendages and the inner surface of each arm is lined with two rows of adhesive suckers. Its average size is between 20 and 60cm, but exceptionally it may grow to more than 1m in length. The octopus changes its colour according to its surroundings to deceive predators, but it is usually reddish brown, yellowish, or grey-blue. It feeds on bivalve molluscs and crustaceans and usually resides near the shoreline. It is caught using special hanging cages.
