The Denominación de Origen for Galician beef products is a guarantee of their quality. The beef usually comes from the local breeds called Rubia Gallega and Morenas del Noroeste or crossbreeds thereof. The whole breeding process is strictly monitored by the Quality Assurance Board up to and including slaughter. Cattle are fed on natural products such as corn, potatoes, turnips etc. The meat is bright pink in colour and has a thick texture and a high nutritional value being rich in vitamins, iron, calcium, etc.
