Rías Baixas: this wine is produced in the south of the Pontevedra province. The Atlantic climate means that temperatures are mild throughout the year. The most common grape variety is Albariño and this white wine is one of the best known and highly considered even outside Galicia. It is light yellow in colour and has a very characteristic fruity flavour.
Monterrei: these wines come from the south of the Ourense province. This area has a slight local Mediterranean climate, with quite high temperatures and very dry summers which has a significant effect on wine growing. Different varieties of grape are used, such as Godello, Treixadura, Mencía, etc. The result is both red and white wines, although the white are of a higher quality.
Ribeira Sacra: These wines were awarded the denominación de origen in 1997. The main red wine produced here is of the Mencía variety, although there are also other varieties such as Godello and Albariño. This wine has an intense cherry colour and was grown back in Roman times. The area is important historically and for its beautiful scenery.
Ribeiro: this is the area in the northwest of the province of Ourense. The area dedicated to winegrowing covers more than 2,600 hectares. The climate is humid with warm temperatures and this contributes to the production of excellent white and red wines. The most common variety of grape is Treixadura, and the result is highly aromatic wines with an intense flavour with a volume of 13º.
Valdeorras: this is one of the oldest denominaciones de origen in Galicia, since 1977. This winegrowing area is located in the northeast of Ourense province. The grape varieties used are Godello and Mencía. Both the climate and soil quality give these wines, red and white, very special character in bouquet and colour.
