A 17th century church in the urban centre
Built in the 17th century, the Freixeiro Church is a beautiful example of religious architecture in Vigo, located in the town centre. It was founded by Brother Francisco de Soutomaior, who was later archbishop and is buried in the church. For its construction, he donated in his will "1,375 pesos so that the bones of our fathers and ancestors have a place to rest".
Tips and recommendations:
Few places in Vigo reflect the contrast between the modern city and its rural past like Freixeiro. Between the ultra-modern Gran Vía Shopping Centre and the end of this neighbourhood in Vigo, you’ll find houses with vegetable gardens and chickens!
